The Wii Motion Plus as an enhancement when playing Wii games

Naturally in the video gaming world, advancements in technology make for a more stimulating and interactive gaming experience. Not only are there a significant variety of accessories that compliment a console, many accessories are created that fine tune gameplay. The Wii Motion Plus was introduced in 2009 as an add-on accessory for the remote control. It was designed to capture more complex motion. The product uses a dual axis 'tuning fork' acting as an angular rate sensor. This allow for the device to process when a person makes a rotating motion. In turn, this will allow the Wii to identify identical movements when a player is playing a game with a variety of rotating movements like martial arts or tennis.

While there are criticisms as to why the sensitivity of the sensors was not incorporated in the original launch of the Nintendo Wii, many new Wii games are emerging that can utilize the more developed version of the controller. There are some Wii games that requesit the Wii Motion Plus and can not just be used with the original controller. Thus, it is difficult to distinguish how much of an improvement the new controller is over the old one. The actual device only measures about one square inch and attaches itself to the controller using two metal prongs. The add-on locks onto the controller so you do not risk it disconnecting during game play. The remote will feel longer with the added Motion Plus extension.

One of the things that Nintendo did when adding the Motion Plus was that you do not need to disconnect it when playing other games. At times add-ons can actually hinder the gaming experience, but the Motion Plus feels like a natural part of the controller. So when you go ahead and play older Wii games, you do not have to go back and forth attaching and detaching the extension. The only time you will need to remove it is when you want to use other accessories such as the Wii Zapper and the Wii Wheel.

One of the best examples of a game that utilizes the full capabilities of the Wii Motion Plus is Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10. The extension makes the game completely under your control in terms of power and the 1:1 support for the controller. Finally Nintendo has perfected the controller for the Wii to the extent that you really feel like however you move the system is actually acknowledging each subtle movement to near perfection.  While the use of the extension may vary from game to game general consumer reviews have unanimously decide that the Wii Motion Plus has been a top notch addition to the family of Nintendo Wii accessories.

As is the case with any video game component, it is necessary to clean the extension so as not to allow dust or dirt to interfere with its capabilities.

Future advancements in technology will further the advancement of the Wii Motion Plus and will further enhance the games offered on the Nintendo Wii.
